The sleek, gorgeous natural stone that is set in this pendant originates from Michigan State. I really cannot shower this vibrant stone with enough compliments! It definitely ranks as one of my favorite types of rock. It has such beautiful, alternating bands of warm earthy red combined with bands of charcoal gray hematite and magnetite (a magnet will actually stick to it!) The color combo never gets old for me.
I am a lapidary artisan as well and cut ALL of my quality cabochons. I cut this cabochon with an overall smooth finish without any bevel cut. It took a beautiful shine as well. This natural stone’s colors are best complimented in a solid sterling silver mounting. I gave the metalwork a soft brushed satin finish and I oxidized it. The metal is adorned with three small round embellishments that I polished to a high shine so it would have a nice and interesting contrast from the oxidized area. I gave the sterling silver double jump ring bail a shiny finish that is consistent with that of the round embellishments. I used fine silver sawtooth bezel that really compliments the stone as well as the vibe of the piece. The backside is very lightly oxidized. The overall design is contemporary with an edgy, classic appeal 🙂
There are many great ways to wear this eye catching, one of a kind, handmade pendant. The pendant would be great paired with a sterling bead necklace, a multi chain necklace such as ‘liquid silver’, a thick leather cord necklace, or of course the classic omega (wide or narrow.) However you choose, you will not be disappointed! The photos do not do justice for this set. All of my photography is taken in my preference of the warmer late afternoon natural lighting. Colors may vary slightly on monitors and devices.
