“Abstract Desert Scapes”
These edgy, bold, chunky earrings are sure to catch eyes and compliments! The incredible stone that this pair features is completely natural and very ancient. It is a type of solidified mudstone that originates from the high desert of New Mexico. It is commonly referred to as ‘Candy Rock.’ They have such striking, vibrant colors of yellow to yellow ochre, maroon, burgundy and white. Their banding of colors lends to a very modern edgy pattern and is quite reminiscent of an old master’s oil painting of abstract art!
An attractive mix of metals compliments these cabochon stones well. I utilized jeweler’s red brass for the majority of the metal work to accentuate the stone’s golden yellows, accented with sterling silver and fine silver for the bezel. The posts are sterling silver as are all of the earrings I make. I finished the metal with a brushed satin finish and oxidized them for an overall distressed look. They have been sealed using a jeweler’s professional grade product to help preserve the finish. No maintenance is required on these 🙂 I cut these cabochon stones with a deep bevel and a fairly deep bezel as well giving them a structured appearance.
These versatile earrings are a generous size and are not for the faint of heart. They are super easy to dress down with jeans or dress up! You will not be disappointed in these very one of a kind, sleek, edgy set, with a bit of an industrial vibe. The photos just don’t do them justice. All of my photography is taken in my preference of the warmer late afternoon natural lighting. Colors may vary slightly on monitors and devices.
